Frequently asked questions
For adults, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered the normal range.
What BMI tells you — and what it does not
Body mass index divides your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres. The World Health Organization uses it to classify adults: below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is normal, 25 to 29.9 is overweight and 30 or more is obese.
BMI is a quick screening number, not a diagnosis. It does not separate muscle from fat, so athletes can score as overweight, and it does not account for age, sex or where fat is stored. Use it as a starting point for a conversation with a health professional.
Everything is calculated on your device. Nothing you type is sent or stored, and there is no limit on how many times you can use the calculator.
