Frequently asked questions
At least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text to pass AA.
Accessible text starts with contrast
WCAG requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text at level AA; level AAA raises that to 7:1 and 4.5:1. Large text means 24px regular or 18.66px bold and above.
The ratio is computed from the relative luminance of each color, following the WCAG 2 formula. Enough contrast helps everyone — especially people with low vision or on a screen in bright sunlight.
