It means 1 divided by the base raised to the positive exponent.
How exponents work
A positive exponent means repeated multiplication: 2^4 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16. A negative exponent means the reciprocal: 2^-2 = 1 ÷ 2² = 0.25. Any number to the power of 0 equals 1.
A fractional exponent represents a root: 8^(1/3) is the cube root of 8, which is 2. The calculator handles all of these the same way.
