What makes a UUID valid
A UUID is 32 hexadecimal digits in five groups (8-4-4-4-12) separated by hyphens. The first digit of the third group is the version, and the first digit of the fourth group encodes the variant, which is 8, 9, a or b for standard RFC 4122 UUIDs.
Version 4 UUIDs are random, version 1 uses time and a node, and newer versions 6, 7 and 8 add sortable and custom layouts.
